What is Heirloom Jewelry?

Everyone has heard the term ‘family heirloom’ and heirloom jewelry is just that. Whether it is a ring or a watch that is passed down from your parents or grandparents, or even your spouse’s grandparents, it is a family heirloom.

These pieces evoke the love and nostalgia we had for our ancestors as children. They represent that love when they are gifted to us by our family. That’s what makes them so special and more than just another piece in our collection. Heirloom jewelry is special and garners the respect from wearers and jewelers alike.

From Heirloom to Wearloom

‘Wearloom’ is any piece of jewelry that has been re-purposed, typically from heirloom items. If an heirloom item has been broken or is otherwise unable to be worn or used for its original purpose, it’s a great candidate to be turned into a wearloom.

Mark Andrews Jewelers took on a few of these projects for our clients’ beloved heirlooms. Featured next is an opal ring that was decked out with a stacked silver ring.

Our next project was a ring with a broken gold band. There was no way it was wearable in its current state so we transformed it. By fabricating a thicker gold band and carefully attaching it, the multiple stones were once again able to be worn and shown off.
